{"id":41,"date":"2019-07-08T19:47:16","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T17:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dalla-santa.eu\/captain\/?page_id=41"},"modified":"2020-06-10T09:39:49","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T07:39:49","slug":"histoire","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chateautoursaintfort.com\/en\/histoire\/","title":{"rendered":"Ch\u00e2teau Tour Saint-Fort AOC Saint Est\u00e8phe: The dawn of a new era"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Located in Laujac, South-East of the village of Saint-Est\u00e8phe, the vineyards of Ch\u00e2teau Tour Saint-Fort belonged to the Lord of Pez and the Calon family in the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n<p>At the turn of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century, it was known as \u2018Maison Cazaux\u2019. Its wines were mainly sold in England and Holland at prices roughly on a par with those of the Fifth Growths. In 1852, it was recognised as a \u2018Cru Bourgeois\u2019, but subsequently the vineyards went into gradual decline due to the crises that struck Bordeaux at the end of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n<p>At the turn of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century, Mr Pineau gave it its first new lease of life under the name \u2018Ch\u00e2teau Pineau\u2019. He won first prize at the Li\u00e8ge World\u2019s Fair in 1905. In 1908, the chateau was once again featured in the authoritative F\u00e9ret wine guide, and in 1932, its status as a Cru Bourgeois was confirmed, under the name \u2018Cru La Tour Pineau\u2019. At the time, its vineyards covered six hectares of Cabernet-Sauvignon and one hectare of Cabernet gris, Merlot and Malbec.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the buildings of Cru La Tour du Ch\u00e2teau Pineau were destroyed in the mid-20<sup>th<\/sup> century. Only the former winery and a wall of the large agricultural building were left standing.<\/p>\n<p>In 1992, alongside replanting of the vineyards, major renovation work was undertaken, extending the farm and introducing technical facilities. The vineyards at the time comprised the former Cru La Tour du Ch\u00e2teau Pineau and part of Ch\u00e2teau Saint-Est\u00e8phe.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Ch\u00e2teau Tour Saint-Fort was taken over and substantial investments were lavished on the property. Modernisation of the winemaking facilities provided it with a new vat house and completely redesigned ageing cellar.
